Flukes and Scams, and How They Work
Get Hired!
What are you waiting for?!
What Employers Look For
TIME TO GET HIRED!
Let's face it, its not us who are unqualified or overqualified. The truth to the matter is that companies nowadays are in a tight situation and the greater the risk, the less of a chance you have to get hired. This is why so many consumers and other individuals are having a hard time finding work. We look for whatever we can get and don't pay much attention to the key words in the job description. This what we most often see our selves doing, but we overlook the descriptions in hope for some quick way to get money.
Everywhere we look is a "Get Rich Fast!" scheme that is so believable that we actually pay those hundreds of thousands of dollars to find out how to make it happen. Time passes and the company doesn't stand behind the gaurantee it first gave you and resorts to the "disclaimer" that you some how did not pay any attention to. Don't worry though. You still have managed to get that new job title! They call this job title "SUCKER"!!
How do we avoid getting caught in this? Well, try looking into actual real job professions. Search for things that include your past education in high school, your college classes, past work experience, and what all this consisted of. Look into the qualifications and if it is something that you find interesting, try going back to school for job training! School rates are expensive, but then again, so is life. You will find that more and more people are losing their jobs simply because of the area they live in and how many people they have to take care of, and the rise in gas prices, which for most of us, is the real battle because we can't afford the expenses that come along with transportation such as having a car. Let's face it; public transportation does not run every where. It is quite hard for those who live outside of city limits. So if that is the case, and you live outside city limits, look for the closest jobs to you. Don't try to get some big corporate job right away.
Settle down for now. Go work for your local Mcdonald's, Burger King, Circle K, RaceTrac, movie theater, become a substitute teacher, or simply build things and sell them on Ebay or craigslist. A job for you is a job, rather you like it or not. And another plus side to that is that if you have a great attitude, treat people really well, get to bed early, and eat right, you will feel great and the working condition for you will improve. This is only a temporary job while you are looking for something that will actually be enough to pay all your bills and get you caught up. Never burn a bridge because its the people you work for now who will perhaps be your clients or customers later in a bigger job.
So now you are probably also one of those who has even applied at these already and you have all the qualifications for a corporate executive. You, my friend, have to learn how to develop a resume for each position you are seeking and make the resume relate fully as much as possible to jobs that might fall in the same category. Another thing that is the most important, is when you have an option of uploading extra documents, do it!
Get reference letters from past employers you have worked for and still have a good connection with. Contact your old teachers and professors, someone you volunteered for, your next door neighbor, and even customers that you used to assist. These are the ones who will back you if some past job slanders you such as mine did me.
Also, write a formal cover letter that separates you from all the others. You don't have to make it sound so professional. They will see that in your resume. Your cover letter is your brief opportunity to tell the HR Manager or other person who is hiring all about you and what you can do for the company. This is your chance to get a little personal and let them feel who you are and gain a sense of your character and personality. Being confident is great! So show confidence, but don't be cocky! Its very easy to tell who is who in writing. This is your hook. Most companies have hundreds upon thousands of resumes to sort through to find the perfect candidate for that position and you are nothing but a piece of paper to them. This is why it is so important to be brief and personal, but put forth a sense of professionalism with all the correct spelling and grammer. Talk about your education, past job experiences, personal goals, and motivations that drives you to be who you are and what got you to where you are today.
If you are jobless and have been for a while, explain also why you are and that you have in that time gained experience that will ensure them they aren't wasting their time with you and how you are different from anyone else. Make sure that you avoid using words like teamwork, team player, and other words that just about everyone uses. Remember, think "Different".
Always keep up with your references. It would be horrible for a company to call your reference listed if they weren't prepared for a phone call, or they haven't seen you in such a long time and forget your face and can't seem to match it with a name. Call your references and ask them again if its okay to use them as a reference. If they say yes, thank them and get their information updated to the best time and places they can be reached. Afterwards, send them a personal thank-you email, card, or letter to show your great appreciation for standing behind you. I will assure you that this little personal touch will make your reference want to brag on you so much more and very highly recommend you to them in such a way that if they don't employ you, they will feel like the biggest idiots on the face of the planet.
If you don't get the job, write them and thank them for the opportunity and let them know that if something doesn't work out, to reconsider you for that position or something that might open up. Why? Well 7 out of every 13 companies that hire, will have a turnover (someone will get fired for being stupid, or late) and a position will open up. Either that, or the person they took instead of you didn't qualify, failed a drug test, or a situation occurred preventing that person to perform or continue to work. Who will they look at next? That's right! Those few little extra steps you took reserved your spot over all the others and made you stand out just enough that they will remember you like a bad tumor on their eye ball, and unless they employ you, they will not be able to hire anyone else because no one else holds up to the standard you made.
I know this because I have been out of work now for a few years while attending college so that I can gain a good job and know enough that I will live happy in a career. I don't want a job. I want a place that I can wake up every morning and be early just because the agenda has promise of a new client, or account, a big project, and promise that will pick me up and educate me as I work in a way that feeds my souls thirst and hunger for the emotion that we all want called "Joy ".
I will leave you with this. If you come to a seminar that you have to invest a few hundred dollars, chances are you are out a few hundred that you could have just given to me and i would have used it to pay my bills with since you aren't using that to pay off yours and are being stupid to fall into another scam. Some aren't scams! But you have to determine if it is really worth the time and how much money you are willing to risk losing before you see a slight gain, and if that small chunk of change is promising enough to keep going.
I wish you all the best of luck and blessings and prayers, thoughts, and all good things come to you! You are not just another number in this world, so please, don't act or write like one! And just because someone big might fall, doesn't mean the grass won't still be green. The world will keep turning and we will keep living. So get out there! All good advice earning you both a useful and a vote up. Fortunately I have a job at the moment and things continue to look fairly good for me.
Great motivational hub! Wise to include the info on transportation (owning a car and public transportation and gas prices and people we have to take care of...) Also liked you included working a job to have a job, while looking for the one you really want. As is with me at the moment, yet glad to be working, especially after experiencing being unemployed for some months. Seems your hubbing is going well, found this hub while searching for info on-line about getting hired: smile :)
Welcome to Hubpages and keep up the good work. Voted up/rated.
For future reference: Should you decide you'd like to include info about others following you and leaving comments and clicking on links, it may be a better idea to not include that info in the hub you are publishing, unless it is a hub specific to generating that type of activity which lists ways to increase readers and viewers and tips on how to make the best of being in the community of Hubpages (see Hubpages' learning center) and view other hubbers' hubs about being on Hubpages. Again, welcome and best to you!
